Feast your eyes on these delicious 3D works by Canadian based artist, Alex McLeod. Holy wow. When I first saw these dioramas-come-installations over at My Love for You is a Stampede of Horses, I instantly thought of that amazing model island from Where the Wild Things Are for some reason. Fantastical.
You can view all these and more up close at McLeod’s website, or pimp your desktop with one of his sweet wallpapers.
Have you heard about Gary Pepper Vintage? It’s the baby of Nicole Warne, a self-confessed vintage addict who spends a generous part of her week trawling thrift stores buying up unique pieces of clothing and accessories, styling them into collections and selling them on eBay.
She quit her day job to pursue this hobby full time and it seems like its paying off. In the short time since Gary Pepper Vintage was born, its featured in flashy mags and style blogs all over. Everyone wants a piece. I have been officially inspired.
Plus just look at the adorable photos that can be found on her blog. Go. Browse. Buy.
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble’s Heritage EP dropped late last month at Conch. Looking forward to picking up a copy this weekend so don’t all rush in there and buy them all up.
Released by ChoiceCuts, this album is the end result of a recent visit to Dublin, where the band shacked up in a studio high in the mountains to rehearse, write new material and add a sprinkling of the Hypnotic dust over some of the tunes that have influenced them and their musical direction.
I’m yet to hear the whole album, but I’m suitably excited after hearing this single Spottie (available for free preview download, yes FREE!). Originally by Outkast, this tune has been nicely reworked in Hypnotic Brass Ensemble style.
If my endorsement hasn’t convinced you, I’m sure the video below will whet your appetite.
More crazy good stuff from another design duo (clearly two minds are better than one). This time, Nicholas Anderson and Julie Ho together as Confetti System are bringing back the art of the party decoration.
I am loving this new project from the Something’s Hiding In Here duo, debuting soon at the curiosity shop. FORAGE is a collection of handmade bow ties in colourful fabrics, each with its oh so cute french woven label. YUM!
There’s a load of things I’ve been wanting to post this week but I’ve just lacked the time and motivation to do any of it. Guess I have to start somewhere though, so first things first…
This video for Florence & the Machine’s new single Dog Days Are Over is amazing! Filled with colourful characters, harps, drums, smoke and the striking red hair of Florence Welch. The video was directed by Georgie Greville and Geremy Jasper of LEGS.
On the website, Florence says she writes her best songs when she’s drunk or hungover which is funny because I love listening to them most after I’ve had a few!
I can’t wait to see her do her thing live next month at the Trusts Stadium Arena.
A few weeks ago I crossed the ditch to Sydney for the weekend. Unfortunately, grey clouds followed me there and rain persisted down for the full four days.
It wasn’t the friendliest weather for taking snaps but I did get the camera out on a couple of occasions. Below are some shots from our epic shopping expedition to QVB, followed by a few from a lunch stop at Darling Harbour.
The highlight of the trip had to be catching up with friends and family however this is closely followed by a visit to the Fringe Bar Markets, Oxford St on Saturday morning – the best spot for vintage finds and awesome jewellery.
These colourful rings are a work of art! Or at least they could help you whip up your own artful creations as they are made out of crayon. Never be stuck for a pen again!
Designed by Timothy Liles, a former Converse sneaker designer from New England, these crayons have found much love on design blogs all over. I like this guy’s other stuff too… he seems to turn his hand to anything that takes his fancy, including chairs, lamps, rugs and rings!
These awesome birdhouses are a collaborative effort by Luke Bartels and Jeff Canham, two artists from San Francisco. These pieces are available for purchase at The Curiosity Shoppe, for US$675.00 a pop!
I can almost picture the questionable feathered characters that would frequent these ‘avian establishments’ – with names like The Condor Club Peep Show, Seedy’s Liquors, Jail Birds Bail Bonds and Puffins Cannabis Club.
I love this guy’s stuff! Kevin Cyr is a Brookyn-based artist, whose work focuses on iconic American vehicles and their deterioration over time. He says “I paint with devoted attention to every imperfection and sign of age”.
Looking at these pieces below you would be forgiven for thinking the man had a history in graffiti – but he does not. You can view more of his work at his website, or check out this interesting read about Meighan O’Toole’s visit to his studio at her blog.
